I am interested in researching about various games and sports. And I read many books about games and sports. I found an interesting topic about Polo. Do you know the origin of Polo? I am surprised to know that Polo is originated in Manipur. I guess many of you haven’t heard about the place Manipur. It is located at the north eastern part of India. And also it is border to Myanmar. Initially the game- Polo was played by the kings with Gods in the mythilogical age. It is traced back to 3100 BC that the game was played by Manipuri people with seven players in a side. The game is known as Sagol Kangjei in Manipur. Sagol means horse and the Kanjei means the stick with which they hit the ball. After British came to Manipur, the game became more popular and the British became interested in the game. The British people renamed the game as Polo and introduced the game to the world. Now Polo is worldly famous but we cannot forget the origin of Polo. King Kyamba, King Khagemba and King Chandra Kriti were the kings of Manipur who were the prominent patrons of the game. Now I am looking forward to share more about the game. If you have any new information about the game, then please share with us.
